A vibrant, revitalized downtown might be every city’s dream, but a lack of adequate parking can quickly become a source of frustration for residents and visitors. During the past 10 years, the city of Gainesville, GA has experienced booming revitalization to its downtown. And while the boost has been great for the city’s economy, the lack of available street parking to accommodate the influx of visitors to Gainesville’s vibrant downtown was a continuous source of headaches for the city. Additionally, businesses on the north end of Gainesville’s downtown square felt underserved by the existing parking deck on the south end of the square. To support its continued growth and revitalization plans, the City of Gainesville proposed a parking deck project on the north end of the downtown square. Located across the street from the Gainesville Library, the new Gainesville North Parking Deck is a 132,150-SF, seven-level precast concrete parking structure that provides 410 new parking spaces for visitors to Gainesville’s thriving downtown.
Metromont’s Atlanta Sales team negotiated the project with the City of Gainesville and general contractor Carroll Daniel Construction. The precast concrete design includes six elevated levels of precast concrete, a thin-brick exterior façade, and arched openings that help the garage blend with the surrounding downtown Gainesville architecture. Metromont’s Hiram, GA manufacturing facility produced 506 pieces of precast concrete with 28,743 SF of embedded thin brick for the project. The longer spans available with precast concrete helped to create a more open and safer parking experience for visitors to the downtown area. The new Gainesville North Parking Deck provides a safe, attractive, and cost-effective parking solution that supports the continued growth of Gainesville’s vibrant downtown.
