The new Lovett School Parking Deck is part of the school’s master plan to significantly improve the campus experience for students, families, faculty, staff, and visitors. The five-level, 106,865 SF precast parking deck is nestled among the trees near the front gate, replacing the previous parking lot in the same location and providing 380 new parking spaces. The addition of the parking garage addresses The Lovett School’s desire for increased parking to reduce the difficulty of visiting campus and finding parking.
Constructed of precast concrete produced at Metromont’s Hiram, GA manufacturing facility, the Lovett School Parking Deck features dual entrance and exit lanes to improve traffic flow around the Paces Ferry entrance. The new parking deck also supports The Lovett School’s sustainability efforts by reducing the amount of impervious surface area on campus, which enables stormwater to be treated before it empties into the Chattahoochee River.
The school opted for a factory-topped double tee system, which resulted in cost savings and a shortened construction schedule on the project. The exterior of the deck has a spandrel-column configuration that uses an architectural concrete mix with two sandblast finishes. The stair/elevator walls include a thin brick façade that reflects the surrounding architecture of the Lovett School campus.
