Located on 3.75 acres at the intersection of Gadsden Street and Greene Street in Columbia, the USC Foundation Student Housing project is a 750,000 SF mixed-use total precast development that includes a 940-bed student housing community and 580-space precast concrete parking deck. The project’s location at the edge of the USC campus provides convenient access to Colonial Life Arena, Greek Village, the Darla Moore School of Business, and the Greene Street Bridge.
Originally envisioned as a cast-in-place concrete structure, the new Gadsden & Greene student housing community was reimagined as a design-build total precast development utilizing Metromont’s MetroDeck floor and ceiling system, exterior insulated MetroMass walls, and interior walls/framing. The 11-story student housing community features 42,000 square feet of student meeting space and 12,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The total precast development includes a 181,230 GSF parking deck, resort-style pool, two-story fitness center, study areas, and rooftop lounge.
A total of 4,740 precast concrete components were produced and erected for the project. The exterior façade of the student housing features charcoal gray concrete mix with light and medium sandblast finish and cast-in thin brick.
